The Impact of Innovation on the Social Structure
Ruling elites typically only want a little bit of innovation. If it starts to become too great, they will tend to crush it and stop it sometimes quite consciously and deliberately. As the economy grows, as you get intensive growth, you do ultimately run up against hard mouth using limits - natural results limits. Now, what innovation enables you to do is to break through those limits, because you find new ways of doing it. And so that's just one example of the way in which innovation enables you, if you sustain it, to broken through those barriers.
