Lewis and the Inklings

The inklings were a group of male dons at oxford, and one or two other people who came in. The topics of their conversation were christianity and literature. They met on tuesdays at lunch time in the eagle and child - which is a purely social occasion. On th Thursday evenings they met in lewis's room to talk about works they were writing. And when charles williams joined the group, he would talk about some of the works he was writing. It was not just a shared interest in literature, it was a group of critical friends who would assess each other and help each other to write better works.
