Inner Cosmos with David Eagleman
The Neurosurgeon's Investigation of the Syndrome E
Yitzhak Fried in the late 90s started thinking about this question a lot and he said you know when you look across all these different events in the world people seem to lose their normal way that their brain functions. He also pointed to Compartmentalization someone can care about their own family and yet at the same time do this sort of thing to another family. And what this leads to is a moral disengagement a person becomes like a car that's in neutral going down the hill.
