Readers and tourists didn't get any kind of like medals or recognition for the incredible valor that they displayed. They didn't even get purple hearts for their injuries because of some technicality where like there has to be witnesses to show that it was a result of enemy action. And so when they reappeared three days later, we were informed that they were dead. We were ordered and no uncertain terms that we would not speak about this incident. "It really left me with lasting cynicism towards my, my own unit and how it operates," he says.
