How to Identify the Storyteller's Commitment to Abuse

You want to continually bring your dialogue with the storyteller back to the story that they have just shared. You can say, I'm more than willing to talk about your failures as a parent. But I'm also aware that you just shared a story about a seven year old boy who was required to soothe his mother because your dad was having an affair. Identify their sense of complicity in their abuse. Complicity is the awareness that at some level, I voluntarily participated in my abuse.
