The War on the Military and Industrial Complex
President Kennedy came into office four days after Eisenhower made a speech warning against the domination of the military and industrial complex. He refused to send combat troops to Vietnam, put tremendous pressure on him to send 250,000 men; he'd never sent any combat troop abroad during his presidency. My uncle said he didn't want the face of America that people knew abroad to be the face of a soldier with a gun. People loved our country at that time: They looked at us as a beacon of freedom around the world.
