The Construction of a Major Highway to Connect the Towns in the South of Spain
The responsibility of building a major highway was handed to civil engineer Amilka Gabrera. Normal asphalt for building roads would melt in the heat of the lava. Using an ingenious system of the Romans, Hamilka used seawater and lime to act as an insulation layer. The Spanish government says that aside from the immediate relief fund, a total of some $1.2 billion will eventually be allocated to the government.
