The Importance of Subtlety
Get out has lots of racial politics in it. It's a film that is at its heart about the way black people are used by white people and are dehumanized to being a body that's a utilitarian instrument for the machinations of others. When I watch it, I never felt like a character came out and went, by the way, if you voted for Mitt Romney, you're a bad person. And the plot and the characters were at the forefront of the film. The politics was so subtle that it wasn't even really a secondary layer. It was more like a tachonic layer that everything's built on top of.
