The Subversive Threat of Freemasonry
Gédadeia Morse condemned secret societies, which he termed subversive of our religion and government. White Virginians were well aware of their potential threat, a group of African American Freemasons presented to the national order. Some even went so far as to express a distinct concern over African Americans becoming Freemasons.
