The Romance of Reality
The goal of evolution is to get better at playing cost of some games so that you get more correlated with your environment. If you're a bacterium that keeps swimming in the wrong direction, you're going to get selected against really quickly. So why do we matter? Because if you can get to that apex stage, you can have a cascading positive impact on the system. And because we are the most sentient things that we know of in the known universe, that gives us the most creative agency of anything we know of - both for good and for bad.
