Taking the groupishness of social order seriously led to very different understandings about where political power came from. If you start from a lockian model, well, you're imagining unanimity. It's the only way to solve the problem of the state of nature. That sets up a distorted model of what politics looks like. And it leads to a distrust of the normal business of contestation in democratic life that we've been talking about already.
