The Computer Science World Was Going All Humpty Dumpty
In computer science, a megabite is one million forty eight thousand 576 bites. A kilobite was two to the tenth power, or one thousand 24 squared. The international electro chemical commission had enough of this nonsense in the late nineties. It recommended that kilo, megga, giga, et cetera would mean the same thing they mean in metric systems.
