The Pituitary Glands
The pituitary gland is a pea-sized gland that sits at the base of the hypothalamus. It's connected to it by sort of this small neck, which consists of the axons of the neuroendocrine cells. The functions of the anterior and posterior pituitary glands are pretty much the same. Their function is to receive input from the hypothalamus and based on that input to synthesize and release various hormones.
