The Benefits of Statins for Cardiovascular Disease
Many cardiologists think that the primary driver of heart disease is cholesterol and to lower it is the best way forward. But does that mean statins don't work? No, it doesn't. Statins do have a small benefit because they have other properties which are anti-inflammatory and anti-clotting. Most people aren't told that if you're at low risk of heart disease then your benefit from a statin is at best about 1%, right, in preventing heart attack over a five-year period.
