The Conquest of the Americas by Columbus
Columbus was not the discoverer of america. Everyone knew there were already people here before columbus. There had been vikings here before. And there were others later, like cabral, the portuguese explorer, who completely separately and independently landed in brazil a unexpectedly. So one can argue that even without columbus, europeans still eventually would have landed in americas. If columbus hadn't done it, it swould have beaten them to the punch.
