Milton's Personal Struggles
Milton went blind in 1652. He also had some unhappy marriages and suffered from gout that was apparently very painful. And he got on the wrong side of the Civil Wars and found himself briefly imprisoned, fearing for his life,. His books were sometimes burned and removed from the Oxford University Library.
