Idols and Paganism

The big problem in our age isn't really idols and paganism, it's more secular humanism. Do you see any differences in the way that these different ancient Near Eastern cultures think about idols? That's hard to answer because the information we have is so spotty. The ritual text that I ended up studying weren't published until 2001.
