The Consequences of Unchecked Ambition
Bonhoeffer says if you ever have a dream or vision, it can make the man proud. And before long, he starts making demands of everyone else and then makes demands of God. He goes on to explain why that's not very popular in Western culture. So I think we should be honest enough to say, great, have visions, great, be ambitious. But you better become like that skilled surgeon who knows exactly the drug that is in your hand because you use it wrong.
