How to Follow Up on Gross Hematuria

The patient with one episode of gross hematuria and you don't find anything on the workup or with asymptomatic hematuria, how often do you need to follow it up? The AOA guidelines and the low-risk patients say you can check it again in a year. I like six-month intervals because a year later, I've forgotten about everything. If it is recurrent, then you move to the more serious workup. It's not going to be very common. Certainly, if they've got recurrent, grossing material, there's something going on there.
