I'm not surprised that what happens is when you go back to Australia, people think that you are English. There is no way an English person would confuse me for being an English person. But an American person was just hearing something that's different. And so then assuming foreignness. I think that's what's happening to you. It's not like you sound like the Queen, but they're hearing something differently. So they're assuming that you're not Australian. And then the closest thing that you map onto is sounding English.
