The experiment in quantum theory can only be properly explained by recourse to a physical reality that is stupendously larger than the one we observe. David also makes some remarks about the nature of philosophy compared to other academic disciplines. In philosophy, as it appears in universities, there's rather a lot of attention paid to what this or that ancient philosopher actually said or meant. It should perhaps be more like physics or chemistry, where we almost never consult the original source of some idea or theory. The purpose of observation is to decide between theories already guessed.
