Joy Is a Moral Obligation

Andre gide writes now that joy is rarer, more difficult, more beautiful than sadness. Once you make this all important discovery, you must embrace joy as a moral obligation. If we deny our happiness, resist our satisfaction, we lessen the importance of their deprivation. We must risk delight. Can do without pleasure seeking, but not delight, not enjoyment. To make injustice, the only measure of our attention is to praise the devil. And if the locomotive of the lord runs us down, we should give thanks that the end had magnitude. There will be music despite everything and there will be beauty in the midst of everything. And we awakend to it.
