What About Wage Theft?
I think the biggest reason to address crime is because it's just the right thing to do. Even setting aside whatever things you've lost or the cost of repairing your car, that can sit you back further than wage theft. I interviewed a woman last year who was assaulted by a psychotic drug addict and re-traumatized when she saw the woman again in her own neighborhood. Why does your compassion extend to people who are sleeping on the streets in front of those buildings but not to the most recent wave of immigrants to the tenderloin? These are socially conservative religious families. Their kids have to see this crap every day. Where's our compassion for those families?
