China's Industrial Policy Is a Source of Misery for the West

The US has been outsourcing the manufacturing of technology and scaling it for 50 years. But what happened is China started making all these goods and suddenly days, oh, now we've been making this for so long. And meanwhile, the West was still married to combustion engine vehicles. So they said, okay, we don't care if you won't tell us your secrets on engines because we're going to build electric cars. It's really the expertise they've gained in manufacturing which America thought was a commodity we didn't need to worry about.
