Since the dawn of time, we've measured time effectively by the rotation of the Earth. The first atomic clock was made at the National Physical Laboratory and had been used there since 1955 for the accurate measurement of time and frequency. A complete measurement takes a few minutes and will result as accurate to one party to ten thousand million. About this present and the diode readings will be error of the working standard.
