Operational Level Force: A Conceptual Space

The operational level entered US military doctrine right after the Vietnam War. It became a very easy safe space for military officers to say, we didn't lose the war and the politicians did. They just lost it at the political and strategic level. By removing that responsibility from themselves, now they're not really grappling with their role in the war. Because it still exists in US doctrine now, then that is also an option for those of us who participated in Iraq and Afghanistan.
