The Key Attributes of a System
The key attributes of a system are important to understand and it's valuable to think about this in the context of some of the systemic things that we talk about here. What is a system? It's an interconnected set of elements that is coherently organized in a way that achieves something. Good systems are self organizing, they learn, diversify, complex, evolve. They have multiple balancing feedback loops, sometimes meta feedback loops. Feedback loops can become unresilient. When they have to pass through a lot of layers, so example of this is a bureaucratic government, which leads to ossification of public institutions. If they are optimizing for other variables, we really saw this in the pandemic
