We're seeing a society wide increase in allergies, but the way they manifest in individuals is very unique. A lot of researchers say it's worth getting diagnosed and figuring out what your reaction was when you have a bad reaction to a food. No one chooses to be allergic to a whole bunch of things. It's not that we don't miss cinnamon buns or Reese's Pieces. We can't for our health.
