The Future of State Level Democracy
It's easier to vote on average than it was in 1990. While the Democratic backside is being hugely consequential over the past 20 years, it's not at the same level as Jim Crow or state laws around slavery. The battles are over a narrower range of the democracy dimension these days than pre-1970s. But then again, it's important to remember, this is all new that social scientists and political scientists have a much better sense of all this now.
