The Sino-French War
France was intent on creating their little Indo-Shin Empire down in Vietnam and Cambodia. In August 1884 a French naval expedition sailed to China and Taiwan to teach the Qing government a lesson for double crossing them in northern Vietnam. This is where Liu Ming Quan enters our story. He had just been appointed as Imperial Commissioner of Taiwan and he'll be managing affairs during this period of contention with the French mostly in and around G Long.
