As stress increases, so does performance up to a point. Once you hit that point where stress becomes too much, then performance platos out or declines. We all like the certainty and achieveability of the things we're doing. It's quite risky to go out on a limb and shoot for the harder stuff. And most people won't do it naturally. You've got to pick your target. Not everyone wants career advancement. Many people have other things in their life that drive them, and they have no real interest in their careers. The very best of your people will only give you probably about 80 % on any given day. They are either looking for a free ride, an easy life
