The movie retells the story of the decades after the Civil War, from the perspective of the Ku Klux Klan. The film cemented stereotypes of black men that already existed in the country. President Woodrow Wilson screened the film at the White House and said it was like "writing history with lightning" It perpetuates the stereotype of black men as violent and dangerous.
