i would say, tap into communities within the profession. Some that i can name right off the top of my head are saty collective and research and color foundation. Being around other black students and having black professors is something that will change your life. The only thing that i despise more than anything is raising money. I grew up in the mid west, and the idea that you would ever ask anybody for anything and help is really foreign. And almost the whole reason i went into academics is that i didn't want to have to,. ou know, have clients and cowtow to people and pretend i like people when i don't like people.
