The Mysterious History of Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis has been around in the Americas before, maybe up to 2000 years ago. Scientists sequenced ancient strains of TB from pre-Columbian Peru and compared them to modern microbacteria. They found that our ancient human strains were actually clashed very tightly together with animal strains. This is the best hypothesis we can come up with, because what we now take those ancient genomes and use them to calculate when was the most recent common ancestor of all tuberculosis strains in the world.
