A feast that we can't afford would be disingenuous and counter productive. Less obvious, however, is the need to budget our time. The next thing that has helped me over the years is to give myself one more hour's planning. I like to set a time at which i'd like my meal to commence - generally about half an hour after guests arrive. But if they weren't already practising what they bring to the world behind theclosed walls of the monastery, then it would have little lasting value in their lives.
