Smith's Philosophy

Smith laid out his philosophical map in the late 1740s when he was in his early 20s. He put together a system of rhetoric, moral philosophy and jurisprudence. His aim was to construct a science of man which would explain how human beings come to be people they are. And Smith was very much in line with David Hume, a great friend of his, in his approach to philosophy.
