Is Hemoglobin Part of the Story?

Hemoglobin oxygen affinity doesn't really have as much of an influence on the ability to get oxygen into the blood at the lungs. At high altitude, where there's less oxygen in the air, that's not the case. And so it becomes a trait that's much more likely to be under selection in high altitude environments than we would see in response to just exercise training and selection at sea.
