"I was struggling with an illness at the time, a stomach illness that had been chronic. But I was trying to sort of power through the whole thing to get through my job talks," he says. "So, I took time off and then I needed to do something, I just had constraints on what I could do to make money because I needed money" He ended up playing poker for about 18 years while recovering.
