Ted Cruz was a reliably right wing conservative of a traditional sort. Once Trump won the nomination and once then Trump said to the Christian right, I'm going to let the Federalist Society and the Heritage Foundation tell me who to nominate for Supreme Court justices that kind of did it. And these people all got behind him.
