Purgatory in the Aftermath of Death
The author's mother was a devout Catholic. She wrote in the notes that she appended to her funeral arrangement, "Party like i am in heaven, but pray like i still need to get there" He says many people have an aversion to the doctrine of purgatory because they think everyone will go to hell if they don't do anything egregious. But he believes we should strive for a life exemplary for its virtue and deep intimacy with God.
