Bitcoin - The Witness Portion

In SegWit for a variety of reasons, it was decided that certain kinds of data in an individual transaction should be moved outside of the sort of what had been the main transaction. And this included things like signatures and scripts. So basically we had a block size of one meg and then we added this witness portion that essentially allowed us to increase the block size to four megs more or less.
