The Battle of Gaul in 405

We don't even know for sure whether the crossing of the Rhine happened on New Year's Eve of 405 or 406. The Vandals were just one of several ethnic groups gathered together in the agglomeration that headed into Gaul as 405 turned into 406. They were able to get away with this because, frankly, Gaul was a political mess. Constantine III had brought his troops into Gaul and rapidly established his control over the province.
