Spielberg Loves Not Critiquing Dead Jews, Right?
I was always so struck by the opening scenes of the movie, right? Because as you said, the opening scene of Munich is just this. It's like Spielberg at the height of his powers depicting the Black September murder of Israeli athletes at the 1972 Olympics. And I remember being very disturbed by it at the time, but I did not have the conceptual language to articulate why. Dara Horan came out with her book, People Love Dead Jews, that kind of finally provided me with the conceptual language for that.
