The Democrats' Argument for Raising the Nation's Debt Ceiling
President was playing a very interesting game here by arguing that the Republicans basically shouldn't get anything at all on a deal. He said it's wrong even to make a deal when it comes to raising the nation's debt ceiling. The U.S. government has been in the habit for the last several decades of borrowing vast sums of money in order to pay for very expensive government programs. And if that debt ceiling is not raised, well, financial chaos is likely to ensue.
