While the penguin team was puppy sitting the seal team was working on the mothers getting data and placing tracking devices. The female when she's being worked on is basically unconscious through gas anesthesia. Once they finish with her they turn off the gas anesthesia put her in a wooden box to give her a safe dark space for her to wake up. Mike who's one of the researchers is like really good at imitating female calls and he'll call to the puppy so that the puppy will respond. And once the puppy starts yelling the female in the box will start waking up because she'll recognize her puppy's sound and so that helps her wake up.
