A true reservoir is an animal that can allow a pathogen to persist even if humans were not part of the picture. But then there are these weird in-betweens like you have animals that get sick from a pathogen, but it's not really a reservoir because it's getting sick and dying just like humans would. "We need to be careful about how we talk about these things," he says.
