Apollo 11 astronaut michael collins spoke on the b b c world service podcast, 13 minutes to the moon in 20 19. He said president kennedy had made our task as simple as possible. It was a very difficult task, but none the less, he had pinpointed it by saying, what you're going to do is land a man on the moon by the end of the decade and return him safely to earth. That narrowed down our focus and gave us an impetus.
