The Struggles of a Doctor
In those first days, those first weeks, those first months of you working as a doctor in this completely new system, what are the memories that you have of those weeks and days? Demand. The people coming for it in masses, we couldn't cope with the numbers and we worked all the hours God sent. One didn't realise how many people had needed surgery, many huge hernias, women with huge prolapses who couldn't see a doctor because they couldn't afford it. There were also a lot of abuse. There were people who said it's free and I'm going to have it for free and I want my cotton wool free and I want my wigs free
