Before you make the leap into a new portfolio, how do you kind of try it out? Well, the only way to do that is to look at the historic returns. Go for funds which have a lot of history, where either they or their index goes back decades. That gives you a much better idea of what the returns will be. So I know there are some really good online tools you can use to model portfolios. One that I've messed around with quite a lot is portfolio charts.com. It does a fairly good job at cobbling together history back to 1970. You've got about 50 years of history to play with. And that spans many crises, high inflation periods,
