In a sense, nehemiah's thirteenth chapter is one of failure. The book ends with sin still menacing jerusalem. And it's still true, isn't it? That anointed leaders can rebuild city walls, and they can restore corporate worship but the weed idolatry in the human heart is too deep for mere confrontation to root out. Israel don't just need leader who will confront them or teach them or correct them - that's not ultimately all they need. They need a leader who'll change their hearts so that their desires go after the real god and not after those other gods. 450 years after nahemiah, and it's great that advent starts this week or
